Differential of Abdominal Bruits Innocent (classically short, faint, midsystolic) Prevalence 6.5-31% of normals (non-HTN) Higher prev in young: only 4.9% of those over 55 yo Hepatic: EtOH hepatitis, Hepatoma(RUQ), Cirrhosis, AV Fistula Neoplasm: Pancreatic, Hepatoma Renal artery stenosis (epigastrum) Atherosclerotic > Fibromuscular Dysplasia Prevalence in angio-proven RAS: 77-86.9% Prevalence in unselected pts ref for HTN: 28% Note: For other causes, no data exists to list these by prevalence Vascular: aortic disease (AAA-28% had bruits), Celiac artery stenosis or compression, chronic mesenteric ischemia, splenic AV fistulas (LUQ), tortuous splenic arteries Other: Bacterial gastroenteritis, unilateral renal hypertrophy, healthy individuals
